Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
